CHRISTMAS GLOBE
PSP8 to PSPX2

You will need the following for this tutorial:
Highlight1, Highlight2, Fine and Bow, Base tubes
which you can get HERE
Download and save in a folder on your computer
*****************************************
Right click and save this Winter
Scene image to your computer

Open up the image in PSP
Window >>> Duplicate
Close the original image.
LAYERS >>> PROMOTE BACKGROUND
LAYER
Set your background colour to WHITE
EFFECTS >>> Geometric Effects
>>> Circle
Edge Mode = TRANSPARENT

IMAGE >>> Canvas Size
Change the Height to 450

Click OK
With your SELECTION tool and the following
settings

PSP9/X/XI/X2:Antialias (inside)
draw a circle inside the 'globe', not quite
reaching the outer edge.

SELECTIONS >>> Invert
Depress your DELETE key
DESELECT

LAYER >>>New Raster Layer
(Raster2)
Open up the 'Highlight' tubes
Right Click on the title bar of 'Highlight1' and
select COPY from the drop down options
Right click on the title bar of your 'globe'
image and select PASTE AS NEW SELECTION
from the drop down options, and place as shown on
the image below.
DESELECT

Go to your LAYER PALETTE and reduce the opacity
on your HIGHLIGHT layer (Raster 2) to 50

ADJUST >>> Blur >>>
Gaussian Blur
RADIUS = 2.50
Click OK
LAYER >>>New Raster Layer
(Raster 3)
Right Click on the title bar of 'Highlight2' and
select COPY from the drop down options
Right click on the title bar of your 'globe'
image and select PASTE AS NEW SELECTION
from the drop down options, and place as shown on
the image below.
DESELECT

Go to your LAYER PALETTEand reduce the opacity on
your HIGHLIGHT2 layer (Raster 3) to 50
LAYER >>>New Raster Layer
(Raster 4)
Right click on the title bar of your 'globe'
image and select PASTE AS NEW SELECTION
from the drop down options.
IMAGE >>> Mirror
and place as shown on the image below.

DESELECT
Go to your LAYER PALETTE and reduce the opacity
on your HIGHLIGHT layer (Raster 4) to 50
LAYERS >>> Merge
>>> Merge Visible
This would be a good time to
SAVE your image as a .psp file
OK Now we have a couple of options..
we can add the 'fine (hanger) and bow' to the top
OR
add a base to the bottom.
In any case we have to add a couple of layers.
So...
LAYERS >>> New Raster
Layer
Go to your LAYER PALETTE and drag
Raster1 under the Merged layer.

Click on the MERGED layer on your LAYER PALETTE
to make it active.
We want the next layer to be above this one *S*
LAYERS >>> New Raster
Layer
(If you'd rather have a
base.... then skip to the instructions
further down the tutorial)
If you are going to use the 'fine and bow'
(hanger)
Select your mover tool and move your globe a
little further down.
Go to your LAYER PALETTE make sure Raster 2 is
active.
Right click on the title bar of 'fine and
bow' image and select COPY from the
options menu.
Right click on the title bar of your 'globe'
image and
select PASTE AS NEW SELECTION from the options
menu.
Position the 'fine and bow' at the top of your
globe and DESELECT
At this point I decided to crop the excess area
using the SELECTION TOOL set to Rectangle,
Feather = 0 and Antialias = UNchecked
IMAGE >>> Crop to selection

Go to your LAYER PALETTE and click on Raster 1 to
make it active
Flood fill with a background of your choice.
I opted for a gradient

Close Raster 1 by clicking on the 'eyeball' in
your LAYER PALETTE
Click on the Merged Layer.
LAYERS >>> Merge >>>
Merge Visible
EFFECTS >>> 3D Effects
>>> Drop Shadow.
Use these settings.
Vertical = 1
Horizontal = 13
Colour = Black
Opacity = 50
Blur = 8.20
Click OK.
DESELECT
Go to your LAYER PALETTE and click on the
'eyeball' on Raster1 to reopen it.
LAYERS >>> Merge >>>
Merge All (Flatten)
Your image is now ready to have a frame added
which I will leave up to you to do.

Save your image

Now, if you'd rather have a Base....
Open up the Base tube in your PSP workspace.
Right click on the title bar of the 'Base' tube
and select COPY from the drop down options.
Right click on the title bar of the globe image
and
select PASTE AS NEW SELECTION from the drop down
options.
Position the base as shown in the image below

Close Raster 1 by clicking on the 'eyeball' in
your LAYER PALETTE
Click on the Merged Layer.
LAYERS >>> Merge >>>
Merge Visible
EFFECTS >>> 3D Effects
>>> Drop Shadow.
Use these settings.
Vertical = 1
Horizontal = 13
Colour = Black
Opacity = 50
Blur = 8.20
Click OK.
DESELECT
At this point I decided to crop the excess area

Go to your LAYER PALETTE and click on the
'eyeball' on Raster 1 to reopen it.
I decided to Flood fill Raster 1 with a Dark Blue

LAYERS >>> Merge >>>
Merge All (Flatten)
Your image is now ready to have a frame added
which I will leave up to you to do.
