Mask & Double Kaleidoscope
PSP8
I messed around for days trying to work out Masks
in PSP8 much to my frustration!!
THEN I discovered I was making things too hard for myself...
Masks are actually very simple in PSP8 the only main difference I found
is that you select the gradient or pattern for the mask BEFORE you create
your mask instead of afterwards.

You will need EYE CANDY 3 for this tutorial
EYE CANDY 3
Extract to your Paint Shop Pro8 \Plugins folder

The Mask image and the picture of the Nymph
can be downloaded
HERE
Extract to a folder on your computer

Open up your Mask Image and the Nymph image
in your PSP workspace

Set your Foreground COLOUR PALETTE
to a pattern or gradient of your choice
OR
you can use the Gold pattern I used...
Right click and save to your computer.
Open up in PSP and load it as a 'pattern'
in your foreground COLOUR PALETTE.




Open up a new image 400 x 400
with a WHITE background

Go to LAYERS >>> Promote Background Layer

FLOOD FILL with the 'gold pattern' or a pattern of your choice.

Go to LAYERS >>> New Mask Layer >>> From Image
Select "Source luminance"
and
because this "maskimage" is a black image on a white background
select "Invert mask data"



Click OK

This is what you should be seeing



Go to LAYERS >>> Delete

Click YES




Go to EFFECTS >>> 3D Effects >>> Drop Shadow



Click OK

Go to LAYERS >>> Merge >>> Merge Group

With your MAGIC WAND
and using these settings



Select the area inside the 'peanut shaped' frame.

Go to SELECTIONS >>>Modify >>> Expand = 4

Go to LAYERS >>> New Raster Layer
Go to LAYERS >>> Arrange >>> Send to bottom

Right click on the Title Bar of the NYMPH image
and select COPY from the options.

Right click on the Title Bar of your Mask image and select
PASTE INTO SELECTION from the options.

DESELECT




Depress your F8 key on your keyboard
to view your LAYER PALETTE
Click on "Group - Raster 1" to activate.




Close your LAYER PALETTE by clicking on the "x"
On the left side of the palette

With your MAGIC WAND
and using the same settings

Select the area inside the 'peanut shaped' frame.
Go to SELECTIONS >>> Invert
Go to EFFECTS >>> Plugins >>> Eye Candy 3 >>> Drop Shadow
Use these settings.



Click OK

DESELECT

Go to ADJUST >>> Sharpness >>> Sharpen

Go to EFFECTS >>> 3D Effects >>> Drop Shadow



Click OK

Depress your F8 key on your keyboard
to view your LAYER PALETTE
Click on " Raster 1" to activate.


Go to ADJUST >>> Brightness and Contrast >>> Brightness/Contrast



Click OK

Go to LAYERS >>> Merge >>> Merge Visible

Load PINK ( #FFC0C0 ) into your Background Colour Palette


Go to LAYERS >>> New Raster Layer
Flood fill with PINK ( #FFC0C0 )

Go to LAYERS >>> Arrange >>> Send to bottom

Go to LAYERS >>> Merge >>> Merge All (Flatten)
We are now ready to work on the frame *S*
