********************************

This tutorial serves 2 purposes...
firstly to improve the clarity of dark images
using PSP's Adjustment Layers,
which changes the look of an image without actually altering the image.
You can delete Adjustment layers before saving your image
or keep adding more until you get it 'just right'.
It's worthwhile playing around with Adjustment Layers...
just for the fun of it *S*

Secondly... we'll add a frame :-)

********************************

You will need the following to complete this tutorial

'Finished Wood' pattern (Which you may already have.)
and the 'jb-s063_gold' pattern

Download and extract to your PSP Patterns folder.

You will also need the "CornerGroup1" tube
which you can download

"Spring Follows Winter"
Painting by Maureen Hyde

********************************

Open up your "Spring Follows Winter" image in your PSP workspace
Go to WINDOW >>> DUPLICATE
Close the original Image
Go to LAYERS >>> Promote to Layer

Go to LAYERS >>> NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER >>> LEVELS
Use these settings
(Do all 3 adjustments before clicking OK)

CHANNEL = RGB
Input Levels from left to right = 0, 1.60, 255
leave the Output Levels as they are.

Click on the 'Channel' and select "RED"

Input Levels from left to right = 0, 0.75, 255
leave the Output Levels as they are.

Click on the 'Channel' and select "BLUE"

Input Levels from left to right = 0, 1.08, 255
leave the Output Levels as they are.

NOW.. Click OK

The image on the left is the original

...

OK let's play around with the COLOUR BALANCE

Go to LAYERS >>> NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER >>> COLOUR BALANCE
(I want to keep the warm tonings of the original image...)

Use these settings
(Do all 3 adjustments before clicking.. OK)

The first is MIDTONES adjustment
COLOUR LEVELS from left to right = -14, -9, 9

NOW... check the HIGHLIGHTS option
Use these settings
COLOUR LEVELS from left to right = 49, 16, 5

NOW... check the SHADOWS option
Use these settings
COLOUR LEVELS from left to right = 3, -7, -9

Click OK

The image on the left is the original

...

OK>>> Let's sharpen it up a little
Go to LAYERS >>> NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER >>> BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST
Use these settings

Click OK

The image on the left is the original
The one on the right is so much better with much more detail visible.

...

(If you followed these instructions without using
"new adjustment layers" you would end up with a totally
different result.)

Now you can

Go to LAYERS >>> MERGE >>> MERGE VISIBLE
in preparation for the frame *S*

THIS WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO SAVE YOUR IMAGE

Let's go framing!!!
