How Do We Beat The Summer Heat?

How do we beat the summer heat?
Living in Australia, it's no mean feat!
Especially in Queensland where humidity's draining
And we wish each day, that it was raining.

Our summers are long and energy sapping
With little relief, we’re often caught napping
So how do we beat it? I hear questions flying,
We don’t!!!! But we never give up trying.

We work in the garden around the pool
So we can often jump in to try to keep cool
Don’t get much work done, but that doesn’t matter
The plants in the garden just thank us for the water

Or we go to the mall on the days that are oppressive
Not for the shopping, it’s the air that’s obsessive.
Then there’s always the beach, with the ocean enticing
Hot sand!! Ouch!! Into the water we’re dancing!

At home under the fan with it turned up full blast
Driving round in the car with windows closed fast
Air conditioning turned on.... full to the hilt
Anything to make sure that we all don’t wilt.

Showers are many for temporary remission
But the water’s luke warm... not cold like we’re wishin’.
Ice-cream by the gallon .... not good for the figure,
Which seems to do nothing but get bigger and BIGGER!

Drinking lots of water with glaciers of ice
Hoping for a cool breeze....Lord, wouldn’t it be nice.
We wait for the evenings to fall and cool down
The temperature’s over 35 in this little town.

But last summer we finally beat it, for a while,
A fabulous plan, not cheap... but worth every mile.
We boarded a plane for a true northern winter
By the time we returned, summer was almost over.
