STAGE 15

LOS ANGELES

26th January 2001

(Australia Day... although I never gave it a thought at the time. )

It was coooold and snowing but we got to sleep in this morning <grin>... we left at 8:30 instead of 8 o'clock since we didn't have so far to travel.

Thanks to our friend George we were able to buy 2 more suitcases last night and we just threw in all the loose stuff we'd purchased along the way. Figured we'd sort it out when we had time in L.A..

Because of the weather we had to forego our visit to Palm Springs. It was a lot safer to stay on the main highway. We stopped at Barstow for lunch and as soon as we left there the snow started... the highway was strewn with wrecked cars. I'd never seen anything like it and it must have been the same in the opposite direction. George was brilliant at driving, never once did we feel unsafe.

I was taking video of all the damaged cars and George was listening to the CB Radio. One of the truck drivers said... "There's some old woman on a tour bus taking video of all this!"

OLD! Thank you very much! At least I wasn't taking film of the gruesome accidents.

We finally arrived in L.A. and the snow had cleared. George took us on a tour of the city.... Mann's Chinese Theatre, Rodeo Drive, Sunset Strip etc., before arriving at the Radisson on Wilshire Bvde. Didn't realise that Wilshire Bvde was 16 miles long!

We settled in and had dinner in the hotel restaurant. Mine was delicious.... Mum sent hers back :-( Oh well.....

We're off to Universal Studios tomorrow ......
