JANUARY to MARCH 2010

10 Jan 2010

I had a really bad day yesterday.... did shopping early, was home by noon and had scanning done and shopping put away by 1:30pm. BUT I ended up going to bed after that.  I would have gladly swapped my feet and ankles for a couple of stumps.... they were on fire and I could barely stand.

The Humira isn't working as I'd hoped... I have an appointment with the specialist on the 22nd of this month. Not looking forward to the trip, there have been so many accidents on the road this past month and it's a long drive. She did tell me if this formula didn't work there are other options.

I'm also supposed to take Methotrexate as well as the Humira BUT I stopped taking that a week before Christmas because I was coming out in a rash on my breasts and stomach area. I sent her an email telling her about this but never got a response. I got this rash last year and had to use antihistamines to get rid of it. I was taken off the Methotrexate back then so I just stopped taking it myself this time.

Also the Humira got rid of my psoriasis within a couple of days of the first injection BUT I'm back to losing my hair and have an itchy scalp again.... it's so frustrating!  I have to tie my hair back when preparing food!

Basically I'm a mess.... *S*

Jason woke me at 6pm... he'd made hot dogs for dinner....(really nutritious... NOT)... shouldn't complain, at least he didn't expect me to make dinner.

Jared stayed home last night so I sat up to keep him company. He kept telling me to smile.. I said "I wish I felt like it".  Then he made his usual crack.. "You hate me!!!" That made me laugh!! Bless him! He knows that I could never hate him no matter what trouble he gets into *S*

I've been having internet connection problems this morning...

I think there might be something wrong with the phone line...
when my extension rings and I pick it up... I can still hear the ring tone and people having a conversation in the background.... like a crossed line.  The main phone doesn't ring with these calls...

I've disconnected my extension in the hopes it solves the problem.

18 Jan 2010

What a crappy week I've had... my phone was playing up BIG time!

All week we've been getting 'phantom' phone calls...
the phone rings... I answer... no-one there, just a ringing tone as if I'd dialled a number.
Then other times I'd answer the phone... I'd hear the ringing tone
but also a couple of people having a conversation at the same time.
The crackling on the line got worse towards the end of the week.
I lost my internet connection!

I phoned Optus on Friday. It was hard to make out the instructions (recorded voice),
after pressing numerous buttons I finally got a human being.
Unfortunately he was Indian.... not that I have anything against Indians, he was trying to be
so helpful but over the crackling I was finding it hard to understand him.
I was getting a headache!!

He ended up transferring me to a 'technician' who would be able to help me...
yeah right!!

This second person (also Indian) transferred me after 5 minutes to another person.. (also Indian).

After about 7 minutes of trying to make my self understood he wanted to transfer me again
and just incase I got disconnected I should ring 131344...
I told him that's the number I rang in the first place and had been transferred 3 times already!!!!

He asked what I'd been told when I first rang...
I told him.... 'press this number for a phone fault'... press that number for something else,
I wasn't having a CONVERSATION with anyone... just pressing numbers!!!!!!

So he suggested I go to the wall phone, take it off the wall, disconnect it, reconnect it,
and he'd call me in 5 minutes.
I told him I couldn't do that because I have arthritis and my fingers are too twisted.
I told him we went through all this last year and it ended up being a problem
at the local sub station... so it's probably the same thing again!!!!!!!!!!!

I told him I'd get my son to call when he got home.
The stress of trying to make out what he was saying over the crackling on the phone
was giving me a massive headache.. I wasn't happy !!!!

Jason called from his mobile when he got home.
He wasn't asked to remove the phone, disconnect it, reconnect it !!!

Five minutes later we got a call with a job number...
would be fixed sometime between Friday and Monday 5pm.

Jason went back to work...
I went back to my computer... it had frozen...
lap top had frozen in the process of shutting down. AAAAAARGH!!

More time wasted!

I finally got back on my computer Friday evening and thought this would be a good time to catch up.

So... I worked on the class lessons, tag tutorials, DA Archives... and so on!

Also deleted a few hundred emails from my Inbox and Sent Mail.

Got connected yesterday.... Sunday...

FTP'd all the changes I'd done.... checked my mail at the provider's website.

So, I'm finally back on line and wouldn't you know it....
WE HAD A BLACKOUT!

No power for a couple of hours!!

The power company phoned me because they thought we had a 'life saving' oxygen machine...
I told the girl I had notified the company when my mother passed away in March 2008
that we no longer have the machine. She apologised.
I told her she could send over a generator though... LOL!!

Then... I think about the poor people in Haiti....
My life isn't so bad... is it??!!

  09 Feb 2010

It seems I have a monkey on my back lately. I've had computer problems all weekend and I eventually 'lost it' and gave up trying to do anything. Jason finally figured out that it might be my graphics card... I have one on order, should get it mid week. In the meantime I'm on here with a hope and a prayer.

Then Saturday night, Jason was out at a friends place, Jared was staying over at a mate's place. After getting a horrendous power bill I took my life in my hands and wanted to turn off the air conditioner in Jason's room. I had to trample over the junk strewn on his floor to get to the window. On my way back to the door to get out, I tripped, hit my head against the wall and ended up on the floor, totally winded!
Of course I couldn't get up and there was no-one around to help. After a sh!##y day I ended up in tears...  Finally I dragged myself over to a chair, pushed whatever was on it on the floor and pulled myself up, hobbled off to bed with a thumping headache.

When Jason came home on Sunday I told him to CLEAN UP HIS ROOM and told him what had happened. His response, he closed his bedroom door! He's no example for Jared!!!!!

So as a result I threw in the towel, got depressed and have spent most of the last couple of days in bed feeling sorry for myself. My knee  and shoulder hurts, my head is OK. I'm on NO medication. I'm still waiting for the second Humira prescription. I have an appointment with my GP today.
  15 Feb 2010

I'm finally up and working.
Jason replaced my graphics card last night and I've tested it doing things the other couldn't cope with and all seems to be working fine so far.

On the health front.... I haven't received my second script for the Humira.
Apparently some reading on my blood test won't allow me to get the script.
Twice I've had to take a double dose of Prednisone for a few days and get another test.
The last one was a failure... so I'm going to have my blood sucked this afternoon again after
three days of taking Prednisone... so keep your fingers crossed for me.
I'm on no medication now.....

I also saw my GP last week and we agreed I have Lymphedema...
I've been in touch with the local hospital and am waiting to hear from the Lymphedema Therapist. She only works from there on the last Tuesday each month. There is no cure but apparently therapy can alleviate the problem. My lower legs are almost normal when I get up in the morning but by late afternoon they look like a couple of trees.... and are very painful.

Ugly... aren't they!!!!! No-one in the history of our family has ever had this....

I'm stuck with the problem/s... I've resigned myself to that fact. I just have to make the best of a bad situation.

08 March 2010

My computer is messing up.... we've replaced the fan and the graphics card... that didn't work...
Jason took out one of my memory sticks last night... now it's working at 'snail's pace'!
He is bringing a new memory stick home today, so keep your fingers crossed for me.

I spent 3 -1/2 hours at the hospital last Wednesday seeing to my legs and hands. Had to wear elastic tube bandages until this morning... they didn't help much.
Today I had both legs bandaged 'tight'...have to go tomorrow, have a shower at the hospital and have the bandages changed and the same thing on Wednesday. If this works I'll get compression supports.. so here's hoping...

As for the hands.... I got finger splints to stop the left hand ending up like the right one.
I have to see the hand therapist again tomorrow.
The elbow to finger tip splints she made for both hands (which I have to put on at night) don't seem to be doing any good and they're uncomfortable.

Then my spendthrift son brought home a 42" plasma TV on Friday!
Yes.. I like it, but now he can get the digital channels as well as the free to air channels we're arguing about my seeing the shows I like instead of all the sporting rubbish he and Jared want to watch! I'm going to get him to connect the old TV in my bedroom!  LOL!!

Lastly...
A cat turned up at the crematorium last week... they've been feeding it and made a place for it to sleep. I felt sorry for it being all alone over the weekend (stupid me!!) and suggested Jason bring it home on Saturday.

It's got a glossy, jet black coat and looks like a mini panther... gorgeous!!!
We were sitting having a chat last night (the cat and me) when I realized this wasn't a stray!
It was too well looked after and looked very much like a Burmese.
So I checked on the internet.... this cat's pedigreed!!!
It's a Bombay, which is a mixture of a Burmese and American Shorthair and worth quite a few bucks!!

I can't get it to sit still long enough to have it's photo taken but got one from the internet
which is his spitting image...

So I phoned the local council and the animal shelter incase someone is looking for it.
Also put an ad in the local paper because I know how I felt when we lost our Devon Rex.... heartbroken!! Apparently these are house cats, so I suspect it got out of the house somehow and then got lost. Our Aydee isn't too impressed... he was hissing and the visitor was growling. *S*

So our visitor is confined to my bedroom for the time being. It has plenty things to get into since I have a little office off my bedroom and also a bathroom. Since I spend most of the day in here he's got company.

He was licking my face in bed last night (YUK!) but strangely enough his tongue doesn't feel rough like a regular cat. He spent the night on the bed with me.... He's much more friendly than our own cat.

I hope someone claims him but, adorable as he is..... I really don't need 2 cats here.

I'm hoping Jason doesn't come home late today with the memory stick, because I've got so much to do for Artistry and this computer not being up to speed is frustrating!

Never dull around here... is it?!?! *S*

  11 March 2010

Well... it finally happened... my computer crashed!"

Jason is going to work on it tomorrow... Friday.
  28 March 2010

Well... I FINALLY have my computer back!!! YIPPEE!!
My brilliant son managed to save EVERYTHING from my corrupted drive!!

Jason (son) is in hospital...it's the cat's fault....
just knew this black cat Jason rescued was a BAD OMEN!!!!!!!!

Around 5:30 am on Thursday Jason was woken by our cat Aydee wanting to go outside. The other cat 'Shadow' follows Aydee around like a bad smell.... Jason picked up Shadow to move him out of the way so he could get up and the little $#!% dug his needle sharp teeth into Jason's right hand between the thumb and forefinger... all the way to the bone  where the forefinger joins the hand and wouldn't let go!! When he finally released Jason's hand it was bleeding like a flood.

I got up around 7:30am and saw Jason sitting with a 'cold pack' on his hand and asked what had happened.

I told him to get up to the hospital or his doctor and get a tetanus injection and some antibiotics ASAP!!!

He waited a couple of hours... phoned the doctor, but there were no spaces available to see him. So I said "GET TO THE HOSPITAL!!!!"  Doesn't matter how old your kids are they never listen to their parents when they really should....

By 2:15pm his whole arm was sore and his hand swollen so bad you couldn't see the knuckles any more. He condescended.... went to the hospital.  There were only a few patients ahead of him BUT 3 1/2 hours later he left... patients that had come in long after him were being attended to first!!! He got ticked off and left.   When he came home I suggested he go back later, after dinner, but he told me he'd go up at 5:00am the next morning (Friday).  I wasn't happy... but what do I know!!

He was taken in right away on Friday. He ended up with a cardiac specialist looking after him. She said he should never have left the day before no matter how long he was left to wait. He could have gone into 'septic shock'.  His hand and arm were even worse by this time. He was put on a drip and given strong antibiotics and they kept him in the hospital.  Like me... they had trouble finding veins for blood tests and to insert the cannula for the drip.  Now his left arm is just as sore if not more from all the places they tried to find veins.

I got Helen, his ex wife, to take me up to see him on Saturday. He had sneaked out of the 'short stay room' and was sitting outside in the sun when we arrived.  Told us that earlier in the day, he was sitting while the nurse was trying to find a vein... felt dizzy.... passed out and had a mini fit!  The nurse thought he was leaning down to pick something up..... she didn't expect him to pass out.... and when he had the fit she had to get help.  Now she won't touch him because she thinks she did something wrong....

He was to stay in until Sunday evening... but now they want to keep him in until Monday. The swelling has reduced a little on his hand... he wants out.... but he's got to stay!  I don't know what I would do if anything ever happened to him.....  Only one problem.... we're about a 5 minute drive from the hospital... he was here at home this morning to get his toiletries and got back before the doctors did their rounds!  He looked like the walking wounded with the patches all over his left arm... said he was a walking voo-doo doll... they keep sticking needles in him.... at least he still has his sense of humour.

One thing.... now he knows what it's like not to be able to do things with your hands... just like his Mum. *S*

NOW... can you believe.... he's giving this evil cat another chance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He's going to have him desexed in the hopes that will quieten him down. The damned cat could have killed him!!!  Lord.... give me strength!!!!  If it were left to me it would be going to Kitty Heaven!!!!  We can't take it to the animal shelter again... if a family with a child got it and the child was hurt like Jason we'd never forgive ourselves.

So all I can do is hope and pray that whatever the doctors are giving him works..... and that he stays until they say he can come home.

I think I've quoted one of our ex Prime Ministers before.... "Life wasn't meant to be easy"....
I just wish all the crap things would happen in spurts, not full on like this last month *S*

31 March 2010

Yes the kitty has a reprieve....
Jason believes Shadow  got a fright when he picked him up and that's why he bit him....

BUT.... Jason WILL get revenge!! LOL!
He's hoping to get an appointment with the vet for next Tuesday and Shadow will come home on Wednesday a few ounces lighter!!

He'll be having his 'you know what' removed, his nails clipped and his yearly shot.
They keep the cats overnight when they neuter them.

When Jason came home Shadow was up in his lap, got comfortable and turned his face up to look at Jason with adoration... boy... if there were Academy Awards for cats... he'd win hands down!!! What a major suck up!!! LOL!

Well... Jason was in hospital from Friday 5:30am to just after lunch on Monday. It seems they have the same problem finding his veins as they have with me... When I saw him he had 8 spot bandaids on his left arm!!

He passed out and landed on the floor at one time... had a mini fit !!
Scared the heck out of the nurse! But he had a cardiologist looking after him so he was lucky.

The staff were sorry to see him go, he kept them in fits of laughter....

I'm just glad he's home and OK.
He now knows what it's like not to be able to use your hands like a normal person.
So he sympathises with me... not that he didn't care before this...

Let's just hope this is the end of our mishaps for a while.. I need a break from them *S*
