How to install and set up WinRAR
To download from the website:
http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR/3000-2250_4-10007677.html
DO NOT GO TO ...
www.winrar.pro THE SITE HAS A TROJAN
Save the file on your hard drive, and once decompressed, you can use WinRAR in the folder to which you uncompressed it.
If you are using Windows, I suggest you choose to "run" the file and not save it on your hard drive. That way, you won't have to go through erasing the file at the end of the installation.
Some permissions might need to be allowed.
You might be prompted if you really want to run the installer or to allow access to it.
Agree to this, and continue on with your installation.
You will then be prompted for a destination folder, if you don't agree with the default location that is offered to you, choose where you wish to put WinRAR.
Continue on by clicking "Install". You are almost done!
WinRAR's now installed on your computer, but it will ask you to configure certain elements through different screens. You can always view more information about the different screens by reading the help that is offered for every window.
A screen will show up, asking you what type of files you would like WinRAR to be the default application for. It is suggested to leave the default, as you won't really need another compression utility for your files.
You will next be asked to choose how you want the user interface to be.
This is purely a personal choice, so use what you think is better for you.
Next up is the shell integration pane, leave the default choices, that way WinRAR will be integrated into your Operating System seamlessly.
You will then press "OK" and WinRAR will inform you that it was successfully installed.
All that is left to do is to press "DONE", and you are in fact done.
Congratulations and welcome to the WinRAR community!
